Signs That You Need Wisdom Teeth Extractions In Fox Point

Not sure if you should have your wisdom teeth pulled? Lots of people can keep all of their wisdom teeth without any issues. But if you recognize any of the following signs, you should get a checkup with Dr. Major to see if wisdom teeth extraction may be necessary for you.

Jaw pain and stiffness

As the wisdom teeth come out, they can cause a lot of jaw pain. They may feel painful when you eat, and you may also experience stiffness that makes it hard to open up your jaw all the way.

Tender, swollen, bleeding gums

When wisdom teeth don’t erupt properly, they may cause the nearby gum tissue to swell, bleed, and feel tender.

Bad breath

Bad breath (halitosis) can indicate the buildup of bacteria in your mouth, which could lead to gum abscesses and infected teeth. Bad breath that won’t go away may mean that you need wisdom teeth extractions in Fox Point.

What To Expect From The Extraction Process

To begin the process, Dr. Major will clean and numb the treatment site. You can also be sedated for your comfort at Fox Point Dental Studio. Once the area is prepared, the extraction process will begin.

If the wisdom tooth has fully erupted, it will be loosened and then pulled out using a variety of special dental tools. This takes only a few minutes, and is known as a “simple” or “basic” extraction.

However, this may not be possible for a tooth that’s impacted (hasn’t fully emerged from the gums). In this case, a surgical extraction is necessary. Dr. Major will make an incision in the gums. Through this opening, the tooth will be cut into smaller pieces, and extracted bit-by-bit. This is a more invasive and complicated process, but may be necessary for complex cases.

The Healing Process & Timeline

After your procedure at Fox Point Dental Studio, Dr. Major will send you home with a set of comprehensive recovery instructions. You’ll need to follow these closely and do things like eat a diet of soft foods, clean your extraction site properly, and avoid physical activity for a few days so that you heal properly.

However, you can usually get back to your normal routine within a day or two. Your mouth will be mostly healed within 1-2 weeks. Make sure to follow the instructions given to you, and come in for any follow-ups that were scheduled at Fox Point Dental Studio.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Be Sedated During My Extraction?

Yes. Sedation dentistry is one of our specialties at Fox Point Dental Studio. We offer laughing gas for minimal sedation, as well as oral conscious sedation and IV sedation for patients who would prefer to relax and sleep through their appointment.

With sedation, it’s easy to get the treatment you need without fear, anxiety, and intimidation. We highly recommend that you opt for sedation during the extraction process. During your consultation at Fox Point Dental Studio, you can discuss your options with Dr. Major, and choose the sedation method that’s right for you.
